A future update of WhatsApp will bring photos of contacts to your notifications on iPhone. The feature, which requires iOS 15 or later, is already being tested among beta users in version of the app.

This is just one of the many improvements that WhatsApp has started working on for its iPhone app. Others include updated contact pages and a community feature that gives administrators more control over their groups.

WhatsApp will improve notifications on iPhone

Apple has made several improvements to notifications with iOS and iPadOS 15 – including the ability to view photos of contacts. The built-in Messages app was obviously the first to take advantage, but others quickly followed suit.

People like Twitter, Discord and Slack have also added photos of the contacts to the notifications, and WhatsApp will soon join the list. WABetaInfo reports that this feature has already been seen by some WhatsApp beta testers.

Not all testers will see it yet, the report said, and those who see it “may have trouble adding profile photos to certain notifications” due to early beta errors. But it should be improved and extended to all WhatsApp users in the future.

Viewing photos of contacts in your notifications can make it easier to identify who the message is from at a glance. As things stand, you only see the name of the contact, with a large WhatsApp icon.

More is coming in 2022

WhatsApp has a bunch of other improvements planned for 2022. In addition to the above, it will also give users the ability to filter nearby businesses and hide “last seen” status from unknown numbers.

We are also still waiting for WhatsApp to finally release the official iPad app. The messaging service has already implemented support for multiple devices, and it is believed that a suitable tablet application will follow. It’s one of the few such services that doesn’t work on the iPad.
