We could wait almost another year for Cupertino’s second-generation AirPods Pro refresh. The new report – citing sources in Apple’s supply chain – claims that the new buds will not fall until the third quarter of 2022.

Earlier rumors indicated that the upgrade could bring an even more compact design with a more rounded shape, plus motion sensors to track fitness.

Apple is slowly updating AirPods Pro

Unlike most other Apple products, AirPods did not have an annual hardware refresh. It’s been over two years between the second and third generation AirPods headsets, and we could wait even longer for the new AirPods Pro.

Tipster @FronTron, who claims to have sources in Apple’s supply chain, reports that the next AirPods Pro refresh will fall during the third quarter of 2022. It is somewhere between the beginning of July and the end of September.

@FronTron is a relatively unknown girl with limited experience up to this point. They also reported that a future refresh of the iPad mini will get a 120Hz ProMotion screen – a feature that is currently exclusive to Apple’s flagship devices.

While these claims should be taken with a little salt, then it seems plausible that refreshing the second-generation AirPods Pro could be a long way off, given Apple’s pattern for upgrading its wireless headphones by now.

What to expect from AirPods Pro 2

It is also worth noting that TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo – who has reliable results – also reported that the new AirPods Pro will not land until 2022. However, he did not specify in which quarter.

In the meantime, Bloomberg Reporter Mark Gurman – along with other analysts – previously reported that the new buds could come with a new, waterproof design and motion sensors to track fitness.
