Ubergizmo was recently a media partner and one of the jury for the Innovation Awards for SMEs Innovative Technology Show 2021 or ITS 2021. We will tell you which companies we have chosen as ours Top 3. In the photo above, I expressed how impressed I was with the nominees.
The ITS 2021 physical event was held at SETEC, a trade fair and exhibition center located in the eastern part of Seoul’s Gangnam district.
With the support of the Korean Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the goal is to shed light on innovative products that could be successful around the world. This year’s slogan is “K-innovative company at the starting point of the great revolution”.
With about 200 exhibited products, the local jury passed the first round of selection. We were then asked choose three of the eleven based on global marketability, innovation and competitiveness criteria.
Ubergism Discovery is a series that reveals innovators around the world in partnership with technology events, incubators, accelerators and local media.
# 1 GFI Co., LTD
This company smart fire extinguisher is our favorite product ITS 2021. It is more of a chemical product than an electronic one, but check this out: it is a passive and stable compound that, after activating heat, will release fire extinguisher called KF-5-1-12.
The mixture is stable and the user can cut it into different shapes and then glue it to any surface. It is about as thick as a double-sided strip. Therefore, it can be placed in any strategic location, even inside wall electrical outlets. The same connection is also sold as a (para) cable that can be wrapped or hung.
It seems to work better indoors, like electrical panels, cabinets, safes and more. Given sufficient quantities, the sky is the limit. Not only is it our best choice, but it’s also the show’s big winner.
# 2 Rope, Inc.
Rope Inc. Baton product runs a cigarette lighter in the car. It has a motion sensor that can detect when a car accident occurs and calls an ambulance with the appropriate GPS coordinates via the driver’s smartphone. The goal is to speed up the eventual arrival at the hospital, at the golden hour.
In addition, the device can also analyze the driver’s everyday driving style, and some insurance companies believe that Baton’s “good driver” is good enough to justify the discount. Even the government will give benefits such as parking discounts to good drivers.
Fortunately, serious accidents are rare, so Baton also helps with minor accidents by helping the user connect immediately with car insurance.
# 3 VPIX Medical Inc.
The VPIX EndoPix microscope could become a very effective way for surgeons to analyze cancer cells during oncological surgery via in vivo imaging, without biopsy. Real-time analysis would be a decisive factor in whether the area is tumor or not and whether it should be removed. The alternative is to send a sample to the lab and wait for the results to return. During this time, the patient remains under anesthesia.
The longer they wait and the riskier the surgery, the longer the recovery time. For this reason, it is always best to do the analysis as soon as possible so that the surgeries are more efficient and less traumatic for the patients.
For now, the first prototype is in operation and is undergoing another development iteration based on doctor feedback. The next version should be ready “by the end of this year” for more tests. (video interview: VPIX at ITS2021)
We’ve added ITS to the list of trade shows we’d like to visit at some point, but the virtual option gives a good insight into what it’s all about. It wasn’t always easy to choose which product was more innovative, but we thought these three were outstanding.
Websites and direct video links are in the table below. Korean speakers can also watch the new ITS Youtube channel. At ITS 2021, all nominees were gathered in a smaller room to facilitate an interview by Aving Media that asked each company to present itself in front of the camera.
