Twitter implements a a new process flow for user tweet reports which seeks to better diagnose a problem in any situation by asking more why you are reporting a tweet, as opposed to more binary categories of violations.
As you can see in this example, the new process guides users through the login process by first asking who the login is for and what the problem is, before moving on to what could be a violation.
As he explains Twitter:
“The new approach takes the burden off the individual to be the one to interpret the violation in question. Instead, he asks them what happened. This method is called symptoms-first, where Twitter first asks the person what’s going on. ”
The design could make it easier to report problems in tweets more accurately, which could then ensure that appropriate action is taken, as Twitter will be able to better target each report to the right assessment categories.
This is not a big change, but it could be a significant improvement, with some violations falling aside just because they were reported for the wrong reasons. Building a more intuitive reporting system, which could help Twitter understand more about each issue, while also helping to identify further gaps in the reporting process that could lead to even better and improved over time.
The new reporting stream is currently being tested with a small group of users in the US, and will be extended to more regions in the new year.
