Twitter announces a new dedicated crypto team

With an unexpected and surprising move, Twitter on Wednesday announced a new team dedicated to working with cryptocurrency and blockchain. The company says it wants to “understand what crypto can do for Twitter” and will invest even more in decentralized technology.

He gave the announcement for the first time on the social network Tess Rinearson, who was recently hired by Twitter to lead the new team. Rinearson explains that while cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and NFT are becoming increasingly relevant to Twitter, the company wants to go far further when it comes to decentralized technologies.

As I build the team, we will work on discovering what crypto can do for Twitter, as well as what Twitter can do for crypto. Twitter does “get” cryptocurrencies (hello bitcoin tips and NFT!), But there’s a lot more to explore here.

According to Rinearson, the company behind the social network will first explore how to support creators interested in decentralized applications for managing virtual goods and currencies. The new head of Twitter’s cryptocurrency also mentioned that the social network is open to feedback from users to find out how the company can improve its platform in this segment.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Twitter has publicly confirmed that it is working to support cryptocurrencies. Back in September, the head of products on Twitter, Kayvon Beykpour, confirmed rumors that the company was implementing Bitcoin transactions in Twitter’s Yar type. At the same time, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey openly supports Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

It’s unclear when Twitter’s first crypto and blockchain projects will be officially released, but we’ll probably find out more about them soon.
