New mobile game Rocket League Sideswipe was launched in the preseason starting in Oceania, and a wider introduction will come soon, announced developer Psyonix. The in-car football game for iOS and Android was unveiled earlier in March as a mobile, 2D version Rocket League which allows you to play solo or team up with a friend for two on two matches.
Instead of the usual 3D Rocket League perspective, Sideswipe has a 2D side view, as the name suggests. It uses touch controls that are relatively easy to master, according to Psyonix, but will also offer advanced control mechanics for better players. As with the original, it will offer a ranking system for competitive mods with a multitude of car customization options.
As the game’s trailer above shows, it seems to capture the spirit of the original game and actually transitions in one way. As the developer explained in detail, logging in with your Epic Games account for online matches will allow you to earn extra XP for both Rocket League i Sideswipe.
“Every time you make progress Sideswipe, you will earn ‘Bonus victory’ Rocket League. Then, when you win Online Match in Rocket League, you will receive additional XP for that bonus win. Bonus Wins can also be earned for Sideswipe by playing rocket league, so enjoy extra XP in both games, ”Psyonix wrote.
Psyonix has no doubt launched the Rocket League Sideswipe in Oceania (Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia) to fix any bugs, but has confirmed that the game will be launched globally before the end of the year. So far, however, he has not given any details for further introduction.
