Bose recently introduced a brand new portable Bluetooth speaker. The robust little SoundLink Flex has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, a battery life of 12 hours and what Bose said is “stunning” sound for its size. Oh, and float, the company said.

Bose SoundLink Flex: small but powerful

Weighing just over one pound and measuring 7.9 inches (width) x 3.6 inches (height) x 2.1 inches (depth), the Bose SoundLink Flex probably couldn’t be much more compact. It has a built-in service loop that you can attach to the carabiner to carry.

Custom Probe and ‘Position IQ’

Bose said in a press release that the customized probe she put in the Flex was “as big as it can fit.” And it can project “bass that you can feel in your chest.” Using what Bose calls “PositionIQ,” the speaker detects its orientation, such as standing up, hanging in the air or lying on its back, and adjusts the audio output to suit the situation.

The silicone back of the speakers and the powder-coated steel grille are resistant to corrosion and discoloration from UV light, Bose said. An IP67 water resistance rating means the device is safe around the pool. Bose said it floats to the surface when dropped into the water. It sounds like you shouldn’t throw it in the pool, but if it does, it will jump out again.
