Nintendo is introducing a new membership plan for Switch Online, which will unlock a library of classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles. The subscription level to the Nintendo Switch Online + expansion pack will be active in October. Nintendo has not yet shared pricing details, but the company says more information will come soon.
Games in the online expansion package include Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Starfox 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina vremena, Mario Tennis, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Ecco delfin, Phantasy Star IV, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 i Streets of Rage 2, among other iconic titles. Additional N64 games will be added to the lineup over time, including Pokemon Snap, Banjo-Kazooie, The Legend of Zelda: A Major’s Mask i Mario paper. The expansion pack level gives members all the benefits of a traditional subscription to Switch Online, and some classic online games are needed for the first time. Mario Kart 64, for example, will be able to be played online for up to four players.
With new (old) games and a fresh level online, Nintendo is emerging wireless N64 and Genesis gamepads for Switch only and for online subscribers only. The controllers cost $ 50 each and to purchase they need an online membership to change online.
Switch owners have been looking forward to the N64 games coming into the system since its launch in 2017, and the inclusion of the Genesis title is a cherry on top of today’s news. The surprising part is how the games will be distributed, through a new form of DLC subscription.
