The new images offer an even closer look at the new 14-inch MacBook Pro

Ahead of the official launch later this week, new images were sent MacRumors show the new 14-inch MacBook Pro on display at Apple’s authorized reseller, offering us an even closer look at Apple’s completely refurbished MacBook Pro.

The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros were by far two of the most anticipated and talked about Apple product releases all year long. Now that Apple has officially announced them, customers are eager to get their hands on new computers and see even better pictures of the first redesign of the MacBook Pro from 2016.

Earlier this week, we saw a video for unpacking and photos of the MacBook Pro, and a little earlier today, another video that offered us a closer look. The latter, however, was downloaded from YouTube, probably on Apple’s order, because the publication of official practical recordings and reviews of new laptops is not yet allowed.

The new images sent to us by reader George offer us perhaps the best view of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro so far, apart from footage of laptops during last week’s Apple event and promotional material. The photos show a redesigned chassis, and despite the impression that Apple’s marketing material can leave, the feet at the bottom of the MacBook Pro aren’t as noticeably high compared to some older MacBook Pro models.

On the front, one of the most significant design changes is the inclusion of notches. Apple is taking steps to limit the impact the comma has on everyday use on new MacBook Pro devices. As you can see in the photo below, the comma is more noticeable when users are not using full-screen macOS apps, and Apple has increased the height of the macOS menu bar to accommodate the comma.

For the screen, the new MacBook Pro includes mini-LED technology, the same technology in the premium 12.9-inch iPad Pro. With support for ProMotion, the Liquid Retina XDR screen offers enhanced color and brightness for HDR content. Other design changes to the front include an all-black keyboard and the return of function keys in the top row, with Apple removing the Touch Bar. The trackpads on the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro are the same as previous generations.

Sending us these pictures, George left us a few notes about his first impression of the new machine. George told us that the laptop is heavier than expected, that “the comma is not intrusive”, and as we reported earlier, that the notch can serve as a hiding place for the macOS pointer.

Below are some additional photos of the 14-inch MacBook Pro MacRumors received, including footage of the newly added HDMI port, SD card slot, and a fully enclosed MacBook image.

The MacBook Pro became available for pre-orders earlier this week and has already started shipping to customers before their release on Tuesday. Both the 14-inch and 16-inch models can be configured with M1 Pro or ‌M1‌ Max chips, both of which offer a significant performance improvement over the ‌M1‌ chip.

The new MacBook Pro line starts at $ 1,999 for the base 14-inch model with 16GB of shared memory, 512GB of storage and the ‌M1‌ Pro chip. The highest configuration 16-inch MacBook Pro with 64GB of shared memory, 8TB of storage and ‌M1‌ Max chip with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine sells for $ 6,099 . Learn more about both models by reading our dedicated review.

(Thanks again, George!)
