Sonnet Technologies unveiled its new Echo 5 Thunderbolt 4 Hub on Tuesday to allow Mac and iPad Pro users – or anyone with a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port on their machine – to extend their connectivity to peripherals such as screens , input devices and storage. And it offers a robust charging power of 85 W.

When you get a computer or tablet and there are fewer ports than you would like, hubs like this can come in handy.

Echo 5 Thunderbolt 4 hub

The latest member of Sonnet’s Echo family of devices has four Thunderbolt 4 ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) Type A charging port. The Sonnet hub delivers up to 85 watts of charging power.

It is compatible with all Thunderbolt 4 port computers, including all new M1 Macs; all Macs with Thunderbolt 3 ports; and iPad Pro tablets with Thunderbolt port.

Depending on the computer or iPad Pro to which it is connected, the Echo hub also supports connecting one screen (always 4K, up to 5K, 6K or 8K) or up to two screens (4K + 4K, 5K + 5K or up to 6K + 6K) .

Greater connectivity

With four Thunderbolt 4 ports – three for connecting peripherals, one for charging computers – Echo 5 Thunderbolt 4 Hub allows users to connect three Thunderbolt end devices on the bus at once. This means that they are not limited to connecting multiple devices with a separate power supply to the chain.

In all, Thunderbolt hub ports support up to five Thunderbolt peripherals. For users who have more USB than Thunderbolt peripherals, Thunderbolt 4 ports are still of great benefit. They support USB 4 and USB 3 devices (including screens) when connected with the correct cable or adapter.

USB-A charging port

The 10Gbps USB-A Echo hub charging port supports most USB peripherals at full speed, including USB NVMe SSDs, says Sonnet Technologies. The port provides up to 7.5 watts of power to ensure that the devices on the bus will continue to operate. Or it can charge your phone or tablet.

Price: $ 199.99
