It was a pretty big movie weekend, gang. Or rather, a specific movie: Alley of nightmares, a neo-noir psychological thriller from the beloved horror of dear Guillermo del Toro starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett. Adaptation from 1946 Novel by William Lindsay Gresham has seen mostly positive reviews, although it hasn’t really set the world on fire, box office wise. What stands out are the things that del Toro films always feature: great music and design, great actors and directing that makes everything look so enchanting even when you turn into some really confusing territory. Although we didn’t review it, we did did see how it compares to Del Toro’s earlier work and found himself at the top of what is a really good record overall.

And yet, given how the pandemic had suddenly turned so abruptly SNL had to run on a skeleton crew and I hope this weekend, you have probably decided to return home. If you have not decided to make up Hawkeye before the finals on Wednesday, you may have decided to open Netflix as well take a look at your own witch, Henry Cavill. The second season is a hit, and is obviously a stronger, less chronologically confusing adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels. That’s just as good, because Netflix is giving all-in on this property: along with the third season and it’s pretty good A wolf’s nightmare film from the beginning of this year, do a preview by Michelle Yeoh, ia spinoff focused on children is under construction. (Yes really.)

These sound like two pretty good ways to spend a weekend, and we really want to hear about them. (Tick spoilers if you got them on your brain, as always.) Entering 2022, I think Open Channels will be divided between specific topics like this, and the broader “what kind of pop culture you consumed” at the very end of the month, as we worked towards at the end of November. If that sounds like a healthy strategy to you, you can talk about it in the comments below.

Oh, and tell us what you think about it Spider-Man film. I’ve heard a lot of people think that’s pretty good.
