Snapchat adds new features to facilitate fun interaction, including Emoji polls and Bitmoji reactions

Snapchat has added a number of new features to welcome the new year, including survey stickers, individual chat responses in group discussions, and your own opinion on responses to responses, each designed to better personalize your in-app experience.

Here’s a look at each of the new additions.

First, Snap has added survey stickers, which allow you to create emoticon-focused surveys that you can share in Snaps and stories.

As you can see in this example, the new survey stickers provide a fun way to measure your friends ’answers to any question you choose.

As Snapchat explains:

Our visual surveys run on iOS and Android, so all your friends can measure themselves and show their thoughts. In addition, our polls are designed with transparency in mind – you can see how your friends voted to ensure that the answers remain thoughtful and kind. ”

The fact that you can see the answers indicates the more carefree nature of the option, although this will no doubt also lead to some anger and concern about the abuse.

New survey stickers are now available in the sticker folder in the app.

Snapchat also adds a new option to reply to individual messages within the current group chat, allowing you to specifically address any comment in a separate chat thread.

No replies to Snapchat messages

The functionality will be familiar to those who participate in group chats on Messenger, since Meta added the same functionality back in 2019. The option will make your messages easier to understand, while additionally providing more context to all members of the group chat.

To use the individual reply option, you will now be able to hold down the chat message and then tap ‘Reply’.

Snap also introduces Bitmoji Reactions, which are similar to reaction options in other social apps, but use your Bitmoji character for a more personal touch.

As you can see here, within the chat thread, you will now be able to choose from seven Bitmoji reactions, providing a quick way to reply to messages while involving the use of Bitmoji.

Finally, Snapchat has updated its video and audio call interface to “make live chats more fun.”

Update Snapchat video call

The new process makes it easy to add a lens to video calls, a key engagement element for Snap’s video calling option, while you’ll also now be able to preview who’s in a group call before you join.

These are all relatively small changes to the broader scheme, but each, in turn, adds an element of fun, which will help Snap increase engagement and interaction within group chats and call options.

In essence, all of these options replicate elements of other social applications, albeit with a Snap-specific tilt, and that capacity can help expand Snap interaction by providing familiar tools in a new context that are introduced into Snap use.

Each of the new features is now available in the latest version of the app.
