Schlage unveiled the first smart lock in North America to support Apple Home Key – Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt – on Tuesday at CES 2022.

So first there was an application for that … key. And now there is a lock for that key.

Apple wallet and house key

When iOS 15 came out, it included a feature that allows users to add digital keys to the Wallet app on their iPhone and Apple Watch for use with compatible HomeKit door locks. NFC connectivity would allow the user to unlock their home by simply moving the device close to the lock.

Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt compatible with the Thread protocol works like a typical “HomeKit” latch, operating over a Wi-Fi network without the need for a special hub to integrate with the Home app on all Apple platforms. However, you now have the option of adding a home lock key in the Wallet app as part of the “HomeKit” setup process. This adds a new layer of convenience.

More smart lock options

Using Apple’s Home Key system, you can unlock your doors with your iPhone or Apple Watch without having to unlock your device. What’s more, the system supports a power reserve, so it will work for up to five hours after your iPhone is depleted.

As mentioned, Encode Plus is also a traditional keyboard latch. As such, it has a physical backup key. This means more options for unlocking your doors.

And there is more. You can create up to 100 access codes for distribution to users who may need access to your home. And you can schedule codes to work only at certain times or revoke them when you no longer need them.

The lock also has support for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Priced at $ 299.99, Encode Plus will be launched in the spring of 2022, Schlage said. Two styles, the more traditional Camelot and the more modern Century, come with several color options.
