Safari 15 issues: YouTube bookmark browser crash, some websites can’t load on macOS Catalina

macOS Monterey should be released later this year with Safari 15, with key new features including redesigned cards, grouped cards, automatic webpage switching from HTTP to more secure HTTPS when available, faster performance, improved security and more. Apple also released Safari 15 for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina last week.

Unfortunately, some users have encountered several problems with Safari 15, which we have highlighted in more detail below.

Problem tagging YouTube

On both macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey beta, an attempt to tag a YouTube page in Safari 15 seems to result in a browser crash.

The problem was demonstrated by a video shared by the Krazy Wabbit YouTube channel. As a workaround, the video notes that users can create a bookmark folder for YouTube videos and then drag the YouTube pages to a folder on the Safari sidebar.

Problem loading page on macOS Catalina

On macOS Catalina some users in the Apple support communities, MacRumors, Reddit and Twitter reported that some websites are not loading in Safari 15, and affected users receive a “problem recurring” error message.

Affected users said that disabling JavaScript solves the problem by clicking Safari on the macOS menu bar> Settings …> Security and unchecking the Enable JavaScript box, but this is not an ideal solution. Fortunately, it seems that users can permanently solve the problem by reinstalling the Safari 15 bundled from Apple’s servers.
