Qualcomm could have Apple’s silicone competitor in the market in ‘nine months’

At its Investors Day event, Qualcomm announced plans to release next-generation ARM-based SoCs for personal computers that will compete directly with Apple Silicon in terms of performance.

In addition to trying to fight its “closest competitor” (aka Apple), the chipmaker also plans to lead the industry for “sustainable performance and battery life.” In addition to computers, it also aims to optimize the chip architecture for work on mobile devices, vehicles and data center applications. Moreover, it promised to increase its Adreno GPUs, while promising gaming performance in the desktop class.

Apple’s M-series has set the standard for high-performance PC chips, with both Microsoft and Mac experts agreeing that it is truly superior. In fact, Intel has gone so far as to say that Apple has surpassed it.

Qualcomm has been trying to get into PC chips for a while now – especially with its failed Snapdragon 8cx processors and partnership with Microsoft on SQ1 and SQ2 chips. But its offer is smaller compared to Apple’s M1 chips.

But that didn’t stop the company from trying. Earlier this year, he bought the Nuvia for an incredible $ 1.4 billion because of his expertise in designing chips for servers. However, what is worth noting is that in 2019, it was founded by former Apple engineers who worked on A-series chips.

Does Qualcomm hope Nuvia engineers will be able to recreate their magic on the new ARM chips?

However, one should be wary of Apple’s often deployed legal team, as the iPhone maker has a tendency to sue competitors and former employees. The tech firm had previously sued former employee Gerard Williams III, who left the firm to start Nuvia. Apple claimed Williams violated the intellectual property agreement by planning his new venture at the time of the company.

Could Apple’s loss be Qualcomm’s gain? Or is Qualcomm too late to have fun with Apple working on even more powerful chips? Let us know in the comments below.
