Hello and welcome back to another week in the world of Apple news. Last week was the tenth anniversary of Steve Jobs ’death – some RIP. Honestly, as much as he still enjoyed his Apple products, everything looked much better when Jobs was in charge. That had a certain nuance, you know?
Last week we also had a big outburst on Facebook, which affected not only Facebook but also Instagram and WhatsApp. In fact, many things didn’t seem to work on Monday. However, it was a bit refreshing for me, to be honest. I was much more productive during the break because I just had no reason to be distracted other than Twitter. It was a nice vacation. However, Facebook’s big outage in 2021 also showed that Facebook is pretty big at the moment – while that may not be true in the U.S., other countries depend on WhatsApp to communicate with friends and family, but that hasn’t been possible for about six hours . I long for the days when Facebook wasn’t involved in almost anything and everything, but unfortunately, here we are. Regardless, I guess I could use more of a break for Facebook.

Moving on to Apple-related news, pre-sales for the Apple Watch Series 7 rose last Friday, and boys, did they pass quickly. Personally, I have no interest in the 7 Series, because I was massively disappointed with what we got this year. There is no major redesign, the battery life is the same, and there are no new health sensors of any kind. In my opinion, there is nothing worth upgrading from my Titanium Series 5. I hope that the Series 8 will be worth upgrading next year. However, if you have used the Series 3 or older, then the Series 7 is a worthwhile upgrade. I hope you were able to place your order because I heard they left fast!! In the coming weeks, we will have a complete overview of the 7 Series for you, so follow us.
Let’s move on now to things we might get in the future, starting with the third generation iPhone SE. According to the report, we could see a brand new iPhone SE sometime in 2022, but it will use the same design as the current model. To be honest, I think keeping an iPhone SE with the same design would be a good thing – I know a lot of people in my private life who wouldn’t do well with an iPhone that lacks a Home key, like my mom, my mother-in-law, grandma, and I’m sure that this can be applied to many people besides me. I also think it would be great to buy an iPhone for younger kids if you’re going to get them an iPhone at all. I mean, it’s a classic iPhone design that satisfies a lot of people, all it really needs is an updated interior and maybe a better camera sometimes. You just can’t surpass the iPhone SE in price, so that makes sense. Of course, that doesn’t stop people from creating far-reaching concepts for the new generation iPhone SE.
Speaking of iPhones, the latest beta versions of iOS 15.1 seem to have enabled ProRes on iPhone 13 Pro devices, as well as manual control of Macro mode. While I don’t have the latest beta version on my iPhone 13 Pro, probably the best iPhone to date, I’m excited to get my hands on these new features as soon as they become available to the public. I’m not a professional filmmaker in any way, but I’d love to have ProRes for future home videos with my child. Although it is quite unheard of how big the ProRes files will be – it is obvious that 12 seconds of ProRes video will take almost 1 GB of space. Good thing I got a 1TB iPhone, I guess.

And while we were hoping for another Apple event this month with the new M1X MacBook Pros, who knows if that will be the case? After all, we are approaching the middle of the month, and Apple still has no news of any events. Maybe next month? While we’re definitely expecting the next iteration of the M1 chip and 14- and 16-inch MacBooks, Rene Ritchie also expects mini LED displays, the M1X iMac Pro, as well as AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2, and more.
Finally, our own Adam Oram reviewed the iPad mini 6 this week, and as it turned out, it’s a fantastic little device. If you haven’t read it already, I would highly recommend it.
Anyway, until next time!
