Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: How to make a Pokémon follow you

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, a remake of the classic Diamond and Pearl games, reintroduces players to the Sinnoh region with a host of features not present in the original titles. One of these great features is the ability to get Pokémon to follow you, as presented in previous Pokémon games.

It’s pretty easy to do, although unfortunately it’s not available right at the beginning of the game. There are some limitations and you will need to invest a few hours in the game before it unlocks. Here’s how to get Pokémon to follow you to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

For starters, you will need to progress through the game until you arrive Hearthome City. Depending on how fast you work your way through gyms, this may not take that long, although if you take the time to explore and improve your Pokémon, it can take several hours. No matter how long it will take you, when you arrive at the place marked above on the map, here are a few simple steps.

  2. U Amity Square, you will be asked if you want to take a little walk of the “sweet” Pokemon in the park.
  3. This means you will need it more stereotypically “sweet” Pokémon, like Pikachu or Prinplup.
  4. After this short walk, get out of the park.

You have now unlocked the ability to walk any your Pokémon with you. There are no more restrictions on walking just a sweet Pokémon, although you will be limited to only one Pokémon at a time. The Pokémon will also need to be one of the six you have with you at that particular time. Here’s how to get Pokémon to follow you.

  1. Press X to display your menu.
  2. Select Pokémon part of the menu.
  3. Navigate to the Pokemon you want to walk on.
  4. Press A on Pokemon.
  5. Now select Walk Together.

That’s it! Your Pokémon will now follow you around, allowing you to take pictures and socialize together. At any time, you can go back to the menu and select that same Pokémon to put them back on your ball, if for any reason you don’t want to be followed anymore. As you can imagine, Pokémon will not be big enough, as the exact sizes of some of them like Gyarados would make efficient navigation difficult.
