Nintendo has officially reduced the recommended retail price of the base Switch model in Europe, Nintendo Life reported, hopefully, telegraphed a similar decline in the United States. It is now available for £ 260 in the UK or € 270 elsewhere in Europe, instead of the previous £ 280 (€ 330), at Nintendo’s official store.
“Nintendo of Europe is changing the European retail price of the Nintendo Switch console to retail,” a spokesman said in a statement for Eurogamer. “More than four and a half years after its first release, the Nintendo Switch continues to have a strong sales momentum in Europe. After carefully weighing various factors, including exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch – OLED model, we decided now is the time to let’s change the European trade price of the Nintendo Switch. “
There are rumors of a drop in the US price of the base unit with the OLED switch, which will arrive on October 8. The new model has a larger 7-inch 720p OLED screen with smaller bezels, a new stand, an Ethernet port and speaker enhancements, although there are no other upgrades. With everything else unchanged, lower prices make the base model relatively good.
“We made a price change before the launch of the Nintendo Switch – OLED model, so that the price differences between each model in Nintendo’s own retail channel, My Nintendo Store, would be what Nintendo deems appropriate for its store,” Nintendo said.
The base model of the Nintendo Switch is still showing up at US-based Amazon and Nintendo’s official stores at a price of $ 300, so hopefully that will change in the near future. The OLED switch will cost $ 350 in the US, £ 310 in the UK and € 365 elsewhere in Europe. The price of the Switch Lite will remain the same, the company said.
