In early November, Marvel announced that it was new Iron Fist he would officially take power from Danny Rand, who recently renounced the power to save the world. (He begins to see trend in the recent passage of the mantle.) The new Fist will begin its debut with Iron Fist # 1 February, and it is expected to be a big deal. Given that one of the big selling points is that he’s Asian, it’s not hard to see him as a direct response to … let’s say mixed receiving Finn Jones’ mandate as Danny Rand back in the old days of Marvel Netflix.

I’m talking to IGN, writer Alyssa Wong recently explained the process of creating this new Iron Fist with artist Michael YG and what the future hero represents. Making him Asian was “something many people have long wanted to see, including me, and it’s a special feeling to be entrusted with the opportunity.” Although there were previous poets who were Asians, like An immortal iron fist Wu Ao-Shi i iron fists Pei, putting the Asian song in the center, was a “new chapter” for the almost 50-year-old character. “What does it look like to become the Iron Poem in 2021, almost fifty years later (in real time, not in comics)? It has to be different, ”Wong added.

These differences will show in several ways, especially how this new hero fights. Influenced by how Batman Scholarshipyes more like a 1970s gymnast, Wong said this guy has a different fighting style than the one we are used to. Influenced by multiple teachers who taught him to fight, some of whom are said to be “famous,” Wong hopes the style will reflect who he is as a person, which she attributes to YG’s art. “Demonstrating superhuman martial arts always focuses on who they are as a person,” Wong said. “He informs how they fight, how they approach situations … Every good story about superheroes is, in its essence, a story about faces. And that’s something Michael is great at. “

Exactly who this new one is the person under the yellow mask is currently in secret, and it is planned to be so until the end of the first issue. Aside from promising that this new character would build on the legacy of Iron Fist, Wong said his path to taking office for Danny Rand was “a bit unorthodox, which not everyone in K’un Lun is happy with”. The mystery that surrounds him will unfold during a mini-series of five editions, and Wong has additionally teased some interesting things about the character. “As for his powers … they are strange. They are connected with his story of origin, with the intense reversal of the Iron Fist. “

How fast can the turnaround be for new comic book characters to become headlines in the media shows or games, Wong is certainly interested in further researching his story after the miniseries is over. But while she would like to “see how his story continues, both in comics and in other media,” she is just happy to get a chance to present the character to fans. “I’m so excited to share this story with you … It’s a great honor to do something that inspires other people.”

Iron Fist will begin with five editions on February 16, 2022.
