For fans of the old superhero Miracleman, the last few years have been hectic. Created in 1954 by Mick Anglo and originally named Marvelman, the character is lost in time, even after his rights were eventually sold to Marvel back in 2009. It was not clear if and when he would return to the comic book space, but this week Timeless # 1 concluded with shocking teasing that Michael Moran would somehow make his way to the Marvel universe.

But before that can happen, Miracleman must return to the public eye. Therefore Miracleman Omnibus, a collection of the greatest hits to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the hero’s rather re-launch of writer Alan Moore. Moore’s tenure on the character was known for that deconstructionistically taken at a time when the concept began to evolve, and now everything is gathering. This includes his 1982 and 1985 races with artists such as Alan Davis, Garry Leach and John Totleben, to 1989 material. A1 Sketchbook and 1984 Marvelman Special. It seems to be the only non-Moore work from 2014: Grant Morrison and Joe Quesada’s Brand new Miracleman one shot that hit at the very end of 2014.

Miracleman has been an awkward character for Marvel since they acquired his rights. A long legal battle involving Gaiman and Todd McFarlane of Image for the rights of the character meant that his star power disappeared over time, and when Marvel succeeded reprint comics by Moore and Gaiman, it took years for these collections to be published. In 2013, there were Gaiman and artist Mark Buckingham given opportunity to pick up where their 1990s series ended … but those plans quietly disappeared.

What a future awaits Miracleman after that Timeless tease? It’s not clear, but for fans of this character, we hope that this omnibus will start that ball again when it comes out in September this year.
