macOS Monterey runs without some of its greatest features

Mac users can now upgrade to macOS Monterey. This new version offers improvements to Safari and FaceTime, and a new Focus mode. But its two biggest features – Universal Control and SharePlay – will be introduced only later.

It is free to download and install on all compatible computers.

macOS Monterey now available

The just-released macOS update offers Quick Note, allowing users to take a quick note. And FaceTime calls get better with new audio modes and portrait support. Focus mode helps users concentrate by holding notifications while users work, play, or sleep.

Shared with You, which makes it easy to find things like links, images and other multimedia content you’ve received from others, is also available in macOS Monterey – with a brilliant new Live Text feature within the Photos app. Monterey also brings shortcuts to the Mac for the first time.

Live Text, one of the best new features of iOS 15, arrives on the Mac. Allows users to easily download text from images.

Other improvements to this year’s major macOS upgrade include text-wide text translation, iCloud + with Private Relay and Hide My Email, a whole new Apple Maps experience, and the ability to stream content to your Mac from another device via AirPlay.

Universal control is the main new feature for Mac and iPad, but it is not debuting today. Apple recently said it would come out “later this fall.” This feature will allow a single keyboard to control both Mac and iPad, allowing users to easily switch between them.

Mac users will also be waiting “later this fall” for SharePlay. This will allow users to enjoy music, movies, TV shows, etc. together. during a FaceTime call. This is a feature that is also expected in future versions of iOS, iPadOS and tvOS.
