Instagram is testing the ‘Dancify’ option for reels that would automatically sync video and music

Instagram is still in TikTok recovery mode, with app explorer Alessandro Paluzzi discovering a new testing feature that would allow users to ‘dancify‘their Reels clips to any music track.

What the hell does ‘dancify’ mean?

It seems likely that this is exactly the same as the TikTok auto-sync option, which allows users to sync their uploaded videos with any music track they choose.

The automatic process aligns the music beats with the video, ideally to create a better quality clip. It doesn’t always go that way, but it’s an idea, which seems to be the same concept that Instagram uses with this new Reels plugin.

Although Instagram doesn’t seem to believe its users will understand what ‘auto-sync’ means, it is instead trying out ‘dancify’ as a functional name.

I mean, it’s not final yet, since Instagram hasn’t posted it, and the name could change, and it might not even be posted.

Indeed, when we asked Instagram about ‘dancify’, he made this statement:

This is an early prototype and is not currently being tested on Instagram. ”

So, there is still nothing to apply for, because it is not in its final form. But still, you can see where it went.

This would be the latest in a growing line of TikTok features that Instagram has replicated, as it seeks to slow the momentum of the app and prevent its users from migrating to the platform. Which didn’t work – TikTok now has up to a billion active users, while Instagram’s growth rate has seemingly stalled as it loses its cool place status.

Replication, which has been a winner for Instagram in the past, doesn’t seem to be the most effective approach this time around – yet, at the same time, the use of reels is growing, and if Instagram can build on new features, copied or not, it makes sense to at least try them out. whatever it is.

Although that probably won’t help Instagram win over young audiences again. The problem with replication is that it means you are always, inevitably, one step behind, while the brands that are winning the day are the ones taking over as leaders of cultural movements, and the credibility that comes with that. It used to be Instagram, but now TikTok clearly seems to be in the driver’s seat. In order to regain momentum, Instagram really needs to come up with new, original features that will capture popularity and become key points for discussion among young audiences, so that they then feel compelled to open Instagram and try them out for themselves. .

Which, of course, is easier said than done, but while reducing potential audience losses by mimicking TikTok features may work to some extent, it won’t significantly increase Meta’s wider effort to regain youth.

But maybe I’m wrong, and ‘dancify’ is a cool new language I don’t get along with, which will help Instagram regain that momentum and cultural momentum.
