Instagram has announced the addition of a highly sought-after option – the ability to delete individual posts within a pre-set carousel.
As Instagram boss Adam Mosseri explained, now that you’ve set up a carousel of pictures and / or videos, you’ll be able to remove certain posts from that series by tapping the three-point menu, selecting ‘Edit’, and then tapping the small icon garbage in the upper left of the image / video you want to remove.
The option will provide more capacity to manage your Instagram posts, while also ensuring that you don’t have to delete and reload a set of carousels if you later notice an error or problem with a single frame.
Carousels have become one of the most popular post formats in the app, with a recent Mention / Hubspot study revealing that Carousel publishes have overtaken updates to individual images and videos as the most interesting type of post. The capacity to incorporate more context into your updates by adding more frames also makes this format especially valuable for brands – and you will now have more ways to manage your carousel posts, which will be a very handy option if you ever need it.
As Mosseri also notes, Instagram has additionally added a new ‘shake with rage’ feature, which will see that a new report of the problem is activated if you shake the phone when Instagram is active.
Other apps have similar ‘login shakes’ features, including Facebook, which makes it easy to quickly share technical issues or malfunctions and in response to what might in some cases be a reflex action.
On the other hand, if you’re violently shaking your device in response to an app problem, maybe it’s time to take a break from social media. Checking for the latest memes is not that important.
The option to delete one post from the carousel is now available on iOS, and Android will be available soon, while the ‘rage shake’ is only available in the US at this stage.
