With iOS 13, Apple added support for dark themes for the entire system, and third-party developers quickly implemented it, but one app that was missing from the list was Google Maps. The company recently added support for dark mode. Here’s how you can enable dark mode in Google Maps on iPhone.
With OLED screens on the latest iPhone models, it makes more sense to use dark mode to save battery life. In addition, Google Maps in dark mode is easy on the eyes when driving at night. Before proceeding, make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps installed on your iPhone.
When you first open Google Maps after installing the latest update, you’ll be prompted to:
Always in light mode – Google Maps will use light mode even if you have enabled dark mode in iOS settings.
Always in dark mode – Google Maps will use dark mode even if you have enabled light mode in iOS settings.
Same as device setup – Google Maps will sync with system themes.
If you plan to use Google Maps at night, I recommend going with Always in dark mode option. A pop-up window for dark mode appears only once, after which it will save your desired settings. If you want to change the theme in the future, you need to use the Google Maps settings menu.
Follow the steps below to turn on the dark mode in Google Maps from the app settings.
Step 1: Open up google maps on the iPhone.
Step 2: Tap the profile picture in the upper right corner.
Step 3: Select Settings. Touch Dark Mode from the next menu.
Step 4: Select He from Dark Mode menu, and you’ll see Google Maps giving directions in a beautiful dark theme.
