There are many tools you can add to your iPhone or iPad. You can use a holster, a pair of headphones or even a flash drive. But by far, the best help you can get on your iPhone or iPad is Siri. How to use “Hey Siri!”
Learning how to set up Siri is easy, but using “Hey Siri!” is, by design, ridiculously easier. You say, “Hey Siri,” to begin the beginning of your interaction.
- Get within the sound range of your iPhone or iPad
- Say “Hey Siri!” loud enough for your iPhone or iPad to hear you.
- Tell Siri what you want her to do – “invite mom to the speaker”, “book dinner”, “what time is it in Bermuda?” etc.
Here is a list of great Siri commands that you can test right now.
How safe is “Hey Siri!” voice identification?
We tested “Hey Siri!” with over half a dozen votes, and nothing worked except a registered voice or a recording of a registered voice, but that can vary. But the voice ID on Hey Siri is not meant for security. Don’t confuse it with “My vote is my passport, authorize me!” Instead, it is intended to address the issue of unintentional activation, whether accidental, joking, or even malicious.
Turn off “Hey Siri” and stick to manual activation if you are concerned about safety. If you are interested in the convenience of voice activation while caring for children, cooking, working or having your hands full, then know the limitations, but enjoy the functionality.
