How to hide a comma on a MacBook Pro (2021)

The well-received MacBook Pro (2021) and one of the best Macs of the year is known for having a mini-LED screen, M1 Pro or M1 Max system on a chip and a completely new design. For the first time, it includes a comma. While they shouldn’t, some call the MacBook Pro notch controversial. If you’re one of those people who doesn’t want to see a comma, there are ways to hide it, in some ways easier than others, as you’ll see below.

Use full screen mode

Apple allows for relatively painless removal of the MacBook Pro notch, at least when using its native applications. Just use them in full screen mode. Third-party developers can decide whether to hide the comma with their applications.

How to use full screen mode on a Mac:

  1. Open yours application on your MacBook Pro (2021).
  2. Click on the green full screen button in the upper left corner of the application window. You can also use a keyboard shortcut, Control + Command + F.

How to exit full screen mode:

  1. Hold the cursor over upper left corner when using the app until you see a window bar.
  2. Click on the red Full screen exit button. You can use a keyboard shortcut, Control + Command + F.

    To close full-screen mode, hold the pointer over the upper-left corner of the screen while using the app until you see the window bar.  Click the red Exit Full Screen button in the upper left corner of the app window.

You I can not hide the MacBook Pro comma by scaling the application menu bars. However, you can ensure that the entire application menu bar is below it when you do this.

To scale the application menu bars:

  1. Go to Application folder on your MacBook Pro (2021).
  2. Right-click on application you want to use.
  3. Click Get Info.

    To enlarge the application menu bars, go to the Applications folder and right-click the application you want to use.  Select Get Info.

  4. Check it out Scale to fit under the built-in camera box.

  5. Close Info window.
  6. Open up application, which is now scaled.
  7. Repeat the steps to scale other applications.

Use a third-party application

There are already several third-party applications available that hide the MacBook Pro. No doubt others will over time. Here are some to try.

There are many great reasons why the MacBook Pro comma exists. However, if you want to hide it from a design standpoint, you can use a variety of tools, including those listed above.
