In addition to getting an overhaul of the design and weather charts, a super useful feature that the iOS 15 app received during the time was rainfall notifications in the next hour.
As the name suggests, this feature alerts you when rain, snow, hail, or sleet is about to begin or end. The feature is currently supported for locations in the US, Ireland and the UK and could prove very handy for many people. Here’s how to set it up.
How to turn on rainfall notifications in the Weather app
So you want to be warned if it rains or snows in the next hour? Here’s how to set up rainfall notifications in the next hour in the Weather app for iPhone.
- Open up Time application.
- Touch List icon. This is in the lower right corner and looks like a list.
Tap on ••• icon.
- Touch Notices.
- Switch to status switches green in the position for the locations you want to be notified about. This can only be your current location or a specific region from your list of locations.
You will now be alerted to upcoming rainfall for your current location or those on your list of locations for which you have enabled this feature. Please note that this feature is only available in the U.S., Ireland, and the UK, so other sites will not provide such notifications.
How to turn on location services for the Weather app
If you don’t have location services turned on for the Weather app, you’ll see the My Location switch grayed out when you try to turn on rainfall notifications. This is easily corrected in the Settings app.
- Open up Settings application.
- Scroll down and tap Privacy.
Touch Location services.
- Scroll down and tap Time.
Location services are now turned on for the Weather app. Note that you must select the Always option if you want the Weather app to be able to provide notifications about your current location.
How to turn on notifications for the Weather app
Of course, in order to receive rainfall alerts, you will need to allow the Weather app to notify you. If you have turned off notifications for the Weather app, you will be prompted to turn them back on in Settings when you follow the steps above to turn on rain and snow warnings.
In case you need additional help, here’s how to turn on notifications for the Weather app manually.
- Open up Settings.
- Touch Notices.
Scroll down and tap Time
Switch to status switch next to Allow notification to turn on. You’ll then be able to customize the way notifications appear with options for alert style, delivery time frame, lock screen layout, and more.
After following these steps, you should now be able to follow the initial steps in this guide when trying to turn on rainfall alerts in the Weather app.
Always be up to date
With rainfall alerts, Apple’s Weather app is now one of the best iPhone tools for finding out when bad weather is coming.
New warnings can give you plenty of time to take a little break if you’re out or change the clothes you’ll be wearing before you go out. It’s a handy update to the Weather app and if you’re in a supported location, I highly recommend turning it on.
