How to fix a flashing green light on a Nintendo Switch dock


So at one point everything was fine. You played with your Switch and had a great time. Next thing you know, something went wrong. Put your Nintendo Switch in its dock and suddenly the green LED on the front of your dock starts flashing. What’s worse, your Switch doesn’t seem to be transmitting a signal to your TV or even charging while it’s in the docking station.

You seem to have come across what is colloquially known as the flashing green light of death. Well, before you throw your Switch in the trash and sit down for a nice long cry, there are a few things you can try to get your Switch back in proper condition. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to get back to those great games you played!

Check for updates

  1. Disconnect your Switch and go to the Settings menu to make sure there are no updates available for your Switch.
  2. When you are sure you are up to date, restart your Switch by holding down the power button for three seconds, selecting Power Options, and selecting Restart.

Power Cycle

  1. Disconnect the HDMI cable from the docking station, unplug the power cord from the wall and docking station, and wait 30 seconds.
  2. While you wait 30 seconds, take this opportunity to inspect your power cord to make sure it is not damaged in any way.
  3. Turn everything back on and see if that solves the problem.

Skip the broker

  1. If none of these work, plug the power cord directly into your Switch. If it starts to charge, the probable culprit is the docking station.

If you have a faulty or faulty dock, unfortunately you will have to send it to Nintendo for repair. If you are not under warranty, you will need to get a new one. The new Switch docking stations are still a bit more expensive, but you can find them for just over $ 100 at various retailers.
