How to change the country or region of Apple ID on PC and Mac

Want to change regions on your primary Apple ID account used on a Mac or PC? Users moving to another country would like to do so to unlock iTunes and App Store content in that specific region. Some people only tend to create a new Apple account when they are shown this situation, but this is not necessary when Apple gives you the option to change your country or region account settings, directly from your Mac or PC.

Whenever you create a new Apple account from scratch, you will be asked to select your country, which allows Apple to provide localized content on its App Store and iTunes Store. From now on, your Apple account is locked to that particular region in the sense that you will have to pay in the local currency of the country and you are limited to the apps and services available in that region. Although Apple allows you to change the country if you really want to, you may often have to go through additional hoops that we will cover in a second.

You can easily make this change from a Mac, Windows PC, or iPhone or iPad. However, we will focus here on the side of things for desktops.

That’s it. Now, all you have to do is choose a state and accept the Terms and Conditions.

Once you’ve done so, you’ll be prompted to enter new payment information and a billing address for the country you selected. So be sure you are ready.

At this point, you may think this process is easy. But in reality, many users including me can’t access the country / region selection menu and actually change it. This is because you must meet certain requirements before you are allowed to change the region because your payment information is associated with your Apple ID.

For starters, you will need to cancel all your active subscriptions. Not only that, you will have to wait until the end of the subscription before you can change your region. In addition, you need to wait for any pre-orders, movie rentals, or season passes to complete processing. Aside from these two reasons, if you have more credits in your Apple ID, you’ll need to spend them first and clear your balance. Here you can learn more about all the requirements and how to fix them.

Do you also have an iOS or iPadOS device? In that case, you might want to check out how to change the country or region of your Apple ID on your iPhone and iPad. You can also meet all the necessary requirements on your mobile device.
