Here’s one thing we know for sure Obi-Wan Kenobi: we will finally see another showdown with Darth Vader. We got our first look at the series during Disney + Day, an extended birthday celebration of the streaming network. While no actual footage from Obi-Wan is available, the behind-the-scenes clip flowing through the app and the art concept reveals some familiar and new territories for the franchise. Ewan McGregor confirms that the series will begin with Obi-Wan trying to protect Luke Skywalker – as you would expect – but that’s just the starting point for a whole host of new adventures, according to director Deborah Chow.
Disney has previously revealed that Hayden Christensen will return to play Darth Vader, and judging by the concept (and some footage from training), he will definitely be ready to throw himself again. (The live recording in today’s promotion is just a clever montage from the previous one Star Wars movies.) Given the relatively lukewarm response to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it makes sense that Disney relies more on TV production, e.g. Mandalorac and the Book of Bob Fett,, where he can explore new aspects of the franchise.
Maybe not so hot as expected, there are also a few shots from Baymax!, a show dedicated to a cute health robot from Great hero 6. It is the second series for the franchise – after a series of sequels that lasted three seasons – and apparently, the focus will be more on comedy than on pranks about superheroes. But really, it’s not that we lack super-powerful action these days.
Obi-Wan Kenobi i Baymax! will appear on Disney + sometime in 2022.
