Here is the trailer for Peacemaker that will ring in the New Year

Is there a better way to celebrate the beginning of 2022 than with a little violence and a bald eagle? As the clock struck midnight for eastern submarines, James Gunn released a new trailer for Peacemaker, the spinoff of Suicide Squad with the patriotic antihero John Cena in the lead role. Instead of focusing on titular character‘s conflicting soul, this new trailer is about that stupid violence and stupid sense of humor that Gunn’s film happily indulged in.

After he managed to mark himself as a superhero after the events in the film, Peacemaker’s called for action to help “save” the world again. Instead of exchanging thorns with Idris Elb and hanging out with the shark like last time, Peacemaker gave new ping pong team of which may be just like unrelated as Task Force X. The most interesting cast– well, except for the beloved Eagley, of course – is Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante. Somehow, he manages to make the Peacemaker look much smarter. At one point in the trailer, he holds a chainsaw, which seems like a bad idea. The two together are certainly an appealing double act of idiocy.

As with all the humor, some of the trailers jokes they work better than others. Leota Adebayo from Danielle Brooks is a good gag who put an extra bullet in someone when Peacemaker has already extinguished, as well as his one-sidedness when he throws a rocket launcher at a horde of enemies. Others like Vigilante’s torture aren’t terribly funny at the moment, but they may play better in the show itself than as isolated parts. But even if the jokes are hit or missed, the cast seems to have enough chemistry to make it less important: Cena and Brooks play very well, and Emilia Harcourt of Jennifer Holland looks like she’s going to be as fun as someone who is obviously too good for the group of idiots she is burdened with. And if nothing else, it’s a show where John Cena jumps happily into the air as the eagle flies overhead. I didn’t know I needed it until I saw it.

Peacemaker HBO Max will appear on January 13th.
