Honey, we officially have a new one Pinhead. And who will take on the cult horror character is a big surprise.
Stepping into the role that Doug Bradley embodied in cult love Hellraiser films, starting with the writer-director Clive Barker‘s A 1987 horror classic, will be Jamie Clayton (Sense8, L word: Generation Q). Although Pinhead has always been, shall we say, a bit androgynous, this is the first time that the leader of Cenobit will be played by a woman. According to a press release, the film is being shot for Hulu and directed by him David Bruckner (Night house) based on a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski and by story David S. Goyer– just finished production. The rest of the cast consists of Odessa A’zion, Brandon Flynn, Goran Visnjic (Boys), Drew Starkey, Adam Faison, Aoife Hinds and Hiam Abbass (Blade Runner 2049). Described as a “loyal but evolved re-imagining” of the 1987 film, Barker ranks among its producers.
Speaking of Barker, he sounds very excited about this new look at his creation. “After seeing some of the designs from the new David Bruckner Hellraiser film, they pay homage to what the first film created, but then they take it to places they have never been before, ”he said. “This is Hellraiser on a scale I simply did not expect. David and his team are immersed in the mythology of the story, but what excites me is their desire to respect the original even when they revolutionized it for a new generation. “Obviously, Bruckner is pleased to have this seal of approval. “It was a great honor to have Clive on board who supported us and guided us through the amazing universe he created so long ago,” the director said. “Combined with a fearless and dedicated cast, including the amazing Jamie Clayton, who fully embodies the role of Hell Priest, our goal is to create one particular new chapter in Hellraiser heritage. “
Hellraiser will bring its enigmatic box of horrors to Hulu in the U.S. sometime next year, appropriately marking the 35th anniversary of the release of the first film.
