Back in 2020, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy XVI. The game would be the next chapter in the company’s Final Fantasy franchise, so you can imagine that many players were undoubtedly very excited about it. The plan was for Square Enix to have more details to share in 2021, but given that we are almost at the end of the year, this will not happen.

In a tweet by game producer Naoki Yoshida, it seems the details fans have been eagerly awaiting will now be postponed to 2022. According to Yoshida, this will happen in the spring of 2022 when he will announce the big revelation.

The manufacturer notes that the reason for the delay was a pandemic. When we last spoke, I promised to have more information on Final Fantasy XVI later in 2021. However, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to keep that promise, as complications due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic have delayed game development by almost half years.”

Square Enix’s attempts to have its developers work from home appear to have disrupted their communication, which in turn caused delays and in some cases even canceled certain deliveries of funds, which prevented the company from sharing additional details as originally hoped.

The pandemic has undoubtedly caused major disruptions in various industries, where factories have been forced to close temporarily. Companies and people have also gotten used to working from home, which we assume could be a challenge for people who are used to being able to walk around the office and talk to colleagues.
