Cowboy Bebop fans were waiting Netflix adaptation live discover the fourth member Bebop crew (well, fifth if you count Ein the Data Dog). It took until today, that day Cowboy Bebop premieres on Netflix, in order for the streamer to do so, but has finally announced that rookie Eden Perkins has taken on the role of ship hacker, Edward Wong Hau Pepelu of Tiberius IV.
The NetflixGeeked Twitter account gave us the first small clip of a video of Perkins, which they use pronouns, as Ed:
Although the entire footage is six seconds long, Perkins skipping, the theatrical walk is very reminiscent of Ed from the anime, as are the clothes and distinctly red hair. Also, while Ed is explicitly labeled as the woman in the anime, she is portrayed as extremely gender neutral, so it’s really cool that Netflix has inserted a gender neutral actor into the role. There is more to know, but first:
We can confirm that Ed appears at the end of the last episode Cowboy Bebop, which means Netflix most likely ordered the second season of the series. Whether this is good news depends on your reaction to the series, which our Charles Pulliam-Moore said: “it fluctuates between mods so sharply, and often multiple times in the same episode, that it feels like it’s always just a few beats inconsistent with both its own plot and Luxurious soundtrack by Yoko Kanno. ” After seeing Ed’s scene, we can unfortunately confirm that they look so anime-precise that their appearance is awkward and distracting, just like the clothing pieces of Spike Spiegel by John Cho and Jet Black by Mustafa Shakir. However, Perkins has Ed’s crazy personality and manner of speaking perfectly, so that’s great.
On the plus side, the finale has also “set the potential for more promising sequels,” so there is hope for next season, wherever it appears. For now, both live Cowboy Bebop and the original anime is currently airing on Netflix.
