It’s only been a few weeks before Switch players can get their hands on it Pokémon legend: Arceus. The next big entry in the series is the return of the clock to the Hisui region before it happened be known as Sinnoh, and instructs players to explore the area explore pocket monsters in their natural habitats.

GameFreak i Nintendo’s grdouble instillation of information in the months following Arceus’ the announcements focused mostly on game mechanics, but a promotion released in Japan puts the focus mostly on the player exploring Hisui. As easy as it was to joke that the game was basically the franchise’s answer The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild, the promo certainly relies on this as the player uses his Pokémon to travel through the water, gallop down hills, and even fly past volcanoes. It’s hard not to be amazed at the visual direction and how big the world seems in the way it was before games could not always to transfer.

There was an open desire among the fans for Pokémon to change things in the main games for a long time, and what we know about Arceus so far he seems to be dealing with at least some of these complaints. Instead of a fight on the move, it’s an open-world action RPG in which players take tasks from the villagers, camp and make their own supplies. Even more interesting, Pokémon could only kill you directly this time if you are not careful. Although it is unlikely that Nintendo will ever give its own version tailored to fans Nuzlocke challenges, the extra tension that Arceus seemingly provides has some potential to push away players who might forget these creatures trying to kidnap have no objections to defending themselves.

Whether or not Arceus serves as an overhaul or evolution of the formula, what it brings to the table, both in gameplay and narrative, will be interesting to fans. At the very least, it won’t be a bad way to spend the winter, especially if you’re indoors.

Pokémon legend: Arceus arrives on the Nintendo Switch on January 28th.
