#AppleToo organizer Cher Scarlett is leaving Apple after agreeing a settlement

Cher Scarlett, one of the Apple engineers behind the #AppleToo movement and attempts to organize within the company, announced that she will leave the company at the end of this week. According to a separate report, Scarlett will reportedly get a settlement and drop the National Labor Relations Committee’s appeal.

A Bloomberg report said the complaint was filed Sept. 1 with an engineer alleging that Apple prevented employees from collecting payroll data and that management teams “engaged in coercive and repressive activities that allowed abuse and harassment” of workers’ organizations.

Apple accused Scarlett of leaking information to the press, which later led to CEO Tim Cook condemning similar leaked information in an internal letter.

I want you to know that I share your frustration. These opportunities to connect as a team are really important. But they only work if we can trust that the content will stay inside Apple. I want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to identify those who have leaked. As you know, we do not tolerate the disclosure of confidential information, whether it is the IP address of the product or the details of a confidential meeting. We know that leaks make up a small number of people. We also know that people who divulge confidential information do not belong here.

Scarlett officials told Bloomberg that they hope other Apple employees will continue their efforts in the organization, and it seems unlikely that the move will ease the pressure on Apple. The number of people participating in the #AppleToo movement may suggest that there are many more potential complaints like Scarlett’s.
