Apple’s third-party auto repair shop

More details about Apple’s upcoming self-repair initiative come to light as the company prepares for its introduction in 2022, with an internal document revealing how the online parts store will work.

Announced last week, Self Service Repair will, for the first time, allow customers to purchase genuine Apple parts and tools for common iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 repairs such as screen, battery and camera replacement. Apple expects to extend the initiative to other fixes, including those related to the M1 Mac, later in 2022.

On the eve of the widespread introduction, Apple issued an internal letter to clarify the details of the repair program. According to the document he saw MacRumors, Apple intends to sell the online parts store to an unnamed third-party firm.

An external company will be responsible for fulfilling orders for more than 200 individual parts and tools available from Apple, as well as for retrieving defective or defective parts returned by customers.

According to Apple’s announcement last week, customers first order parts and tools using a self-service online repair shop, which will be available in the coming months. Upon completion of the repair, customers can return the “basic” parts or used components for recycling and get credit for the purchase. The strategy is one that is already being applied to service workshops in Apple’s authorized network.

The internal letter also states that repair manuals will be available through the Apple Support website. Customers are instructed to refer to repair manuals and related documentation before ordering parts or self-repair.

Apple plans to introduce Self Service Repair to customers in the U.S. in early 2022 before expanding to other countries.
