Apple will host a virtual event tomorrow that is expected to revolve around the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7 and third-generation AirPods. With rumors that new Mac and iPad models are on the horizon, Apple reportedly plans to hold at least one additional event before the end of the year, and the company’s annual Back to School promotion could give a clue when the next event could take place.
Specifically, on September 15 last year, Apple extended its Back to School promotion, which will last until Monday, October 12 in the United States. At the time, the overtime seemed insignificant, but Apple later announced it would hold the event on Tuesday, Oct. 13, which happened just one day after the promotion ended.
This year’s Back to School promotion is scheduled to end on Monday, Sept. 27 in the U.S., but Apple is unlikely to hold two events in September. In Europe, however, the promotion ends on Monday, October 11, which is perhaps more significant. This could indicate that Apple’s next event will be on Tuesday, Oct. 12, assuming the event ends one day after the Back to School promotion ends for the second year in a row.
Of course, it’s possible that the end of the Back to School promotion and Apple’s October event that fell on days back last year was just a coincidence, so we’ll have to wait for Apple’s official announcement.
It’s also not entirely clear whether Apple will host two or three events this fall, which could affect the timing of the October event. Last year, Apple held its first November event to unveil the first M1 Macs, however BloombergMark Gurman of Mark has suggested that Apple hold two events this fall, with the latter focusing on the Mac and iPad.
As a refreshment, Apple has held an October event in three of the last five years:
- Thursday, October 27, 2016
- On Tuesday, October 30, 2018
- On Tuesday, October 13, 2020
