Apple Stock News: Apple Developing Car Autopilot Function

Apple Stock News: According to MacRumors, Apple with the South Korean OSAT firm have developed the chip modules and packages for the autopilot functions of its Apple Car. OSAT was working on the module for a chip that operates the autopilot function, much like those used by Tesla. Such chips, which oversee AI computations, usually integrate a neural processing unit, CPU, GPU, memory as well as camera interface among other functions. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple will start production in 2025 or 2027, while Reuters believes Apple is aiming to begin production on a car in 2024.

AR / VR Headset is Entering to Mass Production

According to MacRumors, Apple’s first AR / VR headset will enter mass production this fall. Apple is working on two different AR / VR products. The first is an AR / VR headset worn over the eyes, similar to the Oculus Quest. That headset should be a niche product aimed at developers and high-end professionals, with the price upwards of $ 3,000. The second product in the works is “Apple Glasses,” which will come in the form of traditional eyeglasses and represent Apple’s ultimate near-term goal in the augmented reality space. Also, DigiTimes reports that Apple is planning to launch a second version of its AR / VR headset in 2023 that’s lighter, features an improved battery, and is priced more affordably.

Apple Diversifies Supply Chain

Apple is in talks with new suppliers about backend orders for its first in-house 5G modem chips for iPhones. Apple is negotiating with ASE Technology, which owns Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL), to package some of its first self-designed 5G modem chips. Apple is estimated to ship at least 200 million new iPhones in 2023, and will rely on multiple partners to handle backend processing of its in-house 5G modem chips and RF transceiver ICs, based on its regular supply chain management policy for its devices, the sources added.

Apple Stores Drop Mask Mandates

Apple has reduced the mask requirement at most retail stores across the US Also, the company is planning to resume in-store classes, called Today at Apple, at several locations across the country. Classes offer tips on using the company’s devices and software. Some stores will see classes return as early as this week, while many stores are targeting March for classes to begin again.
