Apple began testing macOS Monterey 12.2 beta 1 on Thursday, just days after the release of macOS 12.1. The Mac-maker has not yet revealed the official list of what’s coming in the new version, but tests with beta 1 have shown several changes. However, the long-awaited Universal Control is not one of them.

This pre-release version given to developers was not accompanied by any iOS, iPadOS or watchOS beta versions on Thursday.

Better Apple Music app in macOS 12.2

Apple has not released a list of changes coming in macOS Monterey 12.2. Ali Luming Yin used Twitter to talk about the differences they saw.

macOS 12.2 beta is now available, with smoother scrolling in Safari on the latest MacBook Pro with ProMotion and the original Apple Music and TV experience supported by AppKit previews instead of web previews.

They say the new version offers “a smoother move to Safari on the latest MacBook Pro with ProMotion.” Apple’s new laptops offer screen refresh rates up to 120Hz, but real-world performance hasn’t always been ideal.

And the Mac maker is reportedly rebuilding Apple Music into a “natural Apple Music and TV experience that supports AppKit previews instead of web previews,” says Luming Yin.

At this point, it doesn’t look like macOS Monterey 12.2 will be Universal Control’s debut. This was supposed to be a feature of macOS 12, but Apple was forced to postpone its debut several times. The current plan is to be “available this spring”. When finally launched, Universal Control will allow a single keyboard and trackpad / mouse to control both Mac and iPad, allowing users to easily switch between them.

Developers, start your testing

Currently, macOS 12.2 is for developers only. But if Apple follows its previous habits, public beta versions will be available.

Meanwhile, to gain access to these editions before the release, you need to join the Apple Developer Program, which costs $ 99 per year.
