Apple products now include a 7-day free AppleCare + in Australia

Apple this month began including 7-day free AppleCare + coverage with new products purchased at its stores in Australia, including the all-new Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, HomePod mini and more. Free coverage is automatically included in the purchase of a new eligible Apple product.

The addition was brought to our attention today by MacRumors reader Jack Jacobs, but based on recent updates to the terms and conditions of AppleCare + in Australia, the change appears to have been implemented last week, on September 30th.

The free AppleCare + period provides the same coverage as a paid AppleCare + plan, including coverage for up to two cases of accidental damage, in accordance with the terms and conditions. After the free coverage expires, users can purchase AppleCare + as a one-time purchase or monthly.

It is not clear why Apple implemented this change, but it could relate to strong warranty protection under Australian consumer protection law. Free AppleCare + coverage is not available in the United States or other countries we checked.
