Apple is reportedly partnering with a third-party self-service repair program

Last week, Apple announced the Self Service Repair program that will make Apple parts, tools and manuals available to customers. This in turn would help individuals complete their repairs. The program will initially be available to users in the U.S. in early 2022 and will then expand to other countries. Now, the internal letter he procured MacRumors suggests that the iPhone maker will team up with an undiscovered third party to operate a repair parts store.

Although the letter did not state the official reason for the decision to include a third-party parts supplier, MacRumors he noted that logistics could be the reason for this move. In fact, Apple uses a similar system for Apple Authorized Repairers.

Although no official reason has been given, it would certainly be logistically easier for Apple to outsource the delivery and receipt of parts to and from customers. A similar system already exists for Apple Authorized Repairers.

Additionally, the memo also states that repair manuals will be available on the Apple Support website, which is no surprise as the company also provides details on repair and troubleshooting.

Appleā€™s self-service repair program announced last week will initially be limited to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 for now. The scheme will be developed in phases, with support for multiple devices to be added over time.

In addition, the iPhone maker also said the program will initially focus on the most commonly repaired parts such as the battery, screen and camera. It will add components needed for other repairs later next year.
