Apple is closing retail outlets across the U.S. and Canada because of COVID-19

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Apple has closed several of its retail stores around the world. It wasn’t until June 2021 that all Apple Stores around the world were open at the same time for the first time in 75 weeks, but now the company has decided to close some of its stores in the US and Canada again due to the new COVID-19 variant.

How it transmits Bloomberg, Apple has temporarily closed its stores in Miami, Maryland and Ottawa in response to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases. The news comes a day after the company returned its mandate for masks in all its retail facilities in the United States.

Apple has temporarily closed three retail stores in the U.S. and Canada after an increase in Covid-19 cases and employee exposure, the latest sign that the virus is re-emerging threatens retail operations just before Christmas.

The company said all employees would take tests on Covid-19 before reopening stores and would stay in touch with affected workers. Closing stores due to an increase in Covid’s internal cases usually takes several days.

Earlier this month, the company had already closed the Apple Store in Texas due to the outbreak of COVID-19 among employees. The new Omicron variant now accounts for 3% of COVID-19 cases in the US, which certainly raises new concerns for Apple and other companies.

For now, it is unclear whether Apple plans to close more stores around the world, but this seems very likely given the proliferation of COVID-19 variants.
