Apple has announced the winners of the Apple Music Award for 2021

Apple on Tuesday announced the winners of the Apple Music Award 2021, an annual award that selects the best performers who have stood out with their songs throughout the year. The third Apple Music Award named The Weeknd Artist of the Year, while Olivia Rodrigo, HER and Wizkid are also on the list.

The Apple Music Awards honor music achievements in five different categories – Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Top Artist of the Year, Best Song of the Year and Best Album of the Year – and winners are selected through a process that reflects both Apple Music’s editorial perspective and what users across the world’s most listened to.

Canadian R&B and pop singer The Weeknd was voted Artist of the Year because Apple says it has “taken over popular music and culture on its own terms”.

Pop singer Olivia Rodrigo also won her place at the third Apple Music Award with three different nominations: Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. At just 18, Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” quickly became one of the most streamed singles of the year.

“SOUR” has the most streams of the first week for the debut album on Apple Music globally, with all 11 songs on the album ranked on the Daily Top 100: Global List, as well as on the Daily Top 100 list in 66 other countries. Rodrigo was on the cover of the Apple Music playlists Today’s Hits, A-List Pop and New Music Daily, and is ending a life-changing year as a deserving winner of her first three Apple Music Awards.

Singer and instrumentalist HER was named Songwriter of the Year thanks to her acclaimed album “Back of My Mind”, which was one of the best-selling R&B / soul albums on Apple Music in the week of release.

The work of the award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist HER in the R&B genre became even more expansive in 2021 with the release of her acclaimed album with 21 tracks “Back of My Mind”, which portrays the artist in her most brilliant and confident. , and freewheeling.

This year, the Apple Music Award also introduces a new category that recognizes local artists from five different countries: Africa, France, Germany, Japan and Russia. The company says the award “recognizes artists who have made the greatest impact in culture and on charts in their countries and regions.”

These are the local winners from each participating country:

  • Africa: Wizkid
