APPLE NEWS

Apple could announce its AR headphones in 2022, but it couldn’t be launched until 2023.

There have been a lot of rumors and buzz around Apple’s upcoming mixed reality headphones. Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, says Apple could officially release its headphones in 2022, but could ship them late next year or even 2023.

Rumors suggest that Apple has three major projects in preparation – a mixed headset for virtual and augmented reality, augmented reality glasses and a self-driving car. Gourmet predicts that the introduction of these products could mark a change in Apple’s typical launch strategy.

It is commonly known that Apple announces a new product just before it hits the shelves a few days later. However, when a technology firm launches a new product in a completely new category, it forces customers to wait for its release. For example, the Apple Watch was introduced 227 days after it was released, on April 24, 2015.

Gurman suggests that Apple’s headphones could also follow suit with the delayed launch.

Apple’s first headphones will have a complex design, expensive to make, along with interchangeable lenses. The company will likely have to work with governments around the world on possible prescription lenses and partner with a multitude of manufacturers on complex technologies that neither side has shipped before.

He further says that this process will take a long time and potentially expose him to leaks. The Cupertino-based company could take advantage of the delay between launching and releasing its headphones to garner more publicity. Apple could announce headphones at WWDC in 2022, spur the development of AR and VR applications, and finally launch the product in 2023.

Last month, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo made similar claims. He said that the company may not start mass production of its AR / VR headphones until the end of 2022. Earlier this year, it was announced that Apple’s AR / VR headphones could have two 8K displays, and even eye tracking. Another report suggested that their mixed-reality headphones could be expensive and heavy.
