Apple today confirmed the return of the “Report a problem” button to the App Store, although it will only be available in select countries for now.
According to Apple, the button is back in iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey App Store in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, while other countries will receive it “over time”.
The App Store provides a secure and reliable place to discover apps that meet high standards of privacy, security, and content. Since its launch, the App Store has supported the way users can report problems with their apps and purchases and request a refund. Now the App Store product pages on iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey display a “Report a problem” link, so users can more easily report concerns about content they’ve purchased or downloaded. This feature is currently available to users in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, and will eventually be extended to other regions.
People in other countries can also report problems through the reportaproblem.apple.com website, Apple notes. It is said that teams for reviewing applications, discovery scams and live moderation, and financial fraud will be investigated as needed.
Troubled apps diminish the App Store experience for users and developers, and we are constantly expanding techniques to identify even more types of problematic content to remove. If we suspect that a developer is involved in intentional manipulation, fraud, or abuse, we will notify them and take action. Consequences may include the removal of applications and may affect their membership of the Apple Developer Program, as described in the App Store Review Guideline 5.6.
Apple has long had to deal with problematic apps in its App Store on iPhones, iPads and Macs, and while it’s impossible to constantly monitor every app, harnessing the power of users and making it easier for them to report problems, it’s a vital move forward. Apple’s own app Store moderation is probably one of the iPhone’s best features and that’s why Apple wants to avoid allowing side-loading apps. But some issues are still going through the review and here the ‘Report Problem’ button can be so useful.
