Amazon’s palm-reading technology is moving towards sports stadiums and music halls

Amazon uses its palm scanning technology to allow customers to pay for purchases at Whole Foods and its own cashless stores. It is now expanding the availability of technology for use outside its own facilities, starting by allowing people to enter sports, music and other places for live entertainment without a ticket. The Amazon One will be offered as part of stand-alone ticket stands to be deployed by ticket maker AXS, which will debut today at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver.

To enter the premises via Amazon One, attendees can register one or both palms for the option at the dedicated station just before entering. This will allow them to enter the event and future AXS events, without having to show a map. Amazon says the enrollment process takes just a minute, while the system creates a unique signature palm using the company’s custom algorithms. Once they do, they can simply scan their palms, which takes a few seconds, to enter the AXS location.
