US Representative Alan Lowenthal,, and Demotionally whose district includes parts of Orange County, said the spill was “as tragic as it could have been prevented” Media Release Sunday.

“This environmental disaster underscores the simple fact that where you drill, you spill,” he continued. “Unfortunately, as we are witnessing, when you drill along the coast, when you pour oil on the coast with pipes, our shores will bear the greatest burden of the consequences of such spills. This will be disastrous not only for our marine wildlife and ecosystem, but also for the life of our coastal communities built around fishing, tourism and recreation. ”

We should better understand the extent of the impact of the oil spill on the environment as cleanup crews continue to work until Sunday and until the coming week. But if a few miles of beach that stinks of tar and oil is any indication, it is bad.
