A Mac screen capture app offered by Dropbox for remote work

Dropbox offers its own screen capture apps for Windows and Mac as one of three updates to help with remote work.

While you can already do this with QuickTime or third-party commercial apps, Dropbox says its focus has been on creating a free tool that is both powerful and easy to use.

Dropbox Capture is available as a beta for personal and business plans.

For many, working remotely meant endless hours of video meetings, constant chat messages, and long emails instead of the kind of dynamic communication that comes from the same room. Users working in different time zones have told us that they need new ways to provide context to their content without adding more e-mail meetings.

Dropbox Capture is a comprehensive visual communication tool that helps team members asynchronously share their work and ideas.

  • Replace long emails and documents with short video messages to communicate with your team in less time
  • Bring clarity to your message by visually presenting your work through screenshots, GIFs, and easy-to-capture screenshots
  • Transfer context and connect more deeply with personalized messages
  • Free up your calendar and avoid making impossible appointments in time zones by recording and sharing status updates and work in progress with your team

Recording can be accessed at dropbox.com/capture

Dropbox Replay is an accompanying tool designed to comment on and tag these recordings. Not yet available, but you can join the waiting list for early access.

The same goes for the third tool, Dropbox Shop, intended for creators in the sale of digital content such as photos and videos.

The Dropbox Shop lets you sell digital content creations that you store in Dropbox.

  • Simply create product lists in three clicks. Add content directly from Dropbox or PC, set up a custom image, audio or video preview, and set a price

  • It automatically delivers content after payment, so you don’t have to manage payment facilitation and delivery of content to customers

  • Share product lists directly with customers or via social media and retain 100% ownership of the customer base

  • Save your content with the required user email confirmation for additional downloads

  • Evaluate your ads using aggregate sales, review, and revenue analysis

You can join the waiting list here.

All three tools will be in English only during their introduction.
