Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are faithful remakes of the original DS Pokémon games. However, Grand Underground has undergone the biggest change, as it has been greatly updated to include new Pokémon capture capabilities and the ability to dig up rare statues for your secret base. It’s also the perfect place to pick up Pokémon that you couldn’t meet on the map above, such as Fire Pokémon if you’re having trouble getting it. Collecting Digletts and Dugtio points can help you increase your chances of finding certain Pokémon. Here’s everything you need to know about digging, secret bases and Pokémon hideouts.

As you run around the Grand Underground, you will occasionally come across Diglett or Dugtrio at intersections. Touching them or picking up the pink sparkles they leave behind increases the meter in the upper left corner. When you collect 40 points, the meter is completely filled and you will have four minutes in which all the sparks you are digging on are guaranteed to take you to a place where you can find a rare statue. Plus, a full meter does so so your chances of catching a Shiny Pokémon increase from 1/4096 to 3/4096, which isn’t much, but it’s something.

If you are digging, immediately run to the second yellow dot before four minutes have elapsed and dig again to get another rare green statue.

Once you have dug into the wall and found the treasure at least once, go back to the old man at his house in Eterna City and he will give you Digger Drill. Now go underground and Press A against the wall when you are in a location you like. This will allow you to use the Digger Drill to create a secret database. You can get another Digger Drill from the Mountaineering NPC here. Using it, you will move the location of your secret base.

Why put statues in your secret base?

Any statues you accidentally dig up while in the Great Underworld can be placed in a secret base. Just interact with the ball on the right to start placing them. The default room can accommodate up to 18 statues as long as there is room for them. The types of statues you place will increase your chances of encountering certain types of Pokémon. For example, a statue of Pikachu will increase your chances of finding electric Pokemon. Add more statues of electric pokemon to increase those chances. Rare or green statues further enhance your chances.

The list of statues tells you how many you have and how many square feet of space they take up when placed. Rare statues are listed separately from their regular ones.

You can also increase your secret base to hold more statues by talking to certain mountaineering NPCs located underground. But you have to pay for them in the stones you discover. By placing more statues, you can increase your chances of encountering a particular type of Pokémon. It will really help you fulfill that National Pokédex.

Look at the map in the upper left corner and go to any location with a small yellow marker. When you get closer, press R button to send a wave. If you are close enough, this will reveal a bright yellow sparkle on the wall. Go up to glow and press A. Then select Yes to begin the digging process.

What do rare green statues do?

Statues take up six places when digging and are easier to find than many other objects. The ordinary box has a yellow color with the symbol of the element in the middle. The rare boxes holding the green statues are purple with the element symbol in the middle. Green statues can increase your chances of finding a particular type of Pokémon more than a regular statue. Put more than one species in your base to increase your chances.

How to dig efficiently

You have to be careful when digging because each of your strokes increases the crack at the top of the screen. If the crack reaches the left side, you will need to stop digging. When you first interact with the spark, the game will tell you how many things are hidden to find, so pay attention to this number.

The hammer it has a huge impact and reveals more places, but it seems that the crack at the top moves faster. You can also press R button to go to pickaxe, which reveals less space when used, but also does not affect the upper crack as much.

There are various Pokémon hideouts or biomes within the Great Underworld. This can be seen from the map in the upper corner. If you haven’t been to one yet, he’ll just show a question mark. However, when you enter it, the type of location will be displayed on the map. Biomes remain the same and do not change.

Pokémon with types that match the Hideaway terrain usually appear in these locations. For example, you could see Houndoom in a volcanic cave and Psyduck in a calm water cave. If you leave the Pokémon Hideaway and return immediately, you could get a completely different Pokémon from what you first saw. Here are all the Pokémon Hideaways we have discovered so far.

Want to meet even more Pokémon? You will need to unlock that National Pokédex. This is done by seeing all 151 Pokémon and then going to Sandgem City to talk to Professor Rowan. When that’s over, Professor Oak shows up and unlocks National Dex for you.

There are also four different parts of the Grand Underground, so you’ll need to travel to places that give you access to everyone. For example, there is a separate area below Ramanas Park or the Battle Tower area.

Digging Pokémon

There are so many fun moments in the Grand Underground. I was completely immersed in digging for rare statues and encountering various Pokemon during my journey through the Sinnoh region. This is a great way to break away from the normal course of Pokémon RPGs.
